INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Virginia Driver Improvement School On-line. We are pleased that you have selected our on-line program to complete your driver improvement clinic course requirement. This on-line program has been approved by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and traffic courts. This course will offer you valuable traffic safety information. The course will update you regarding recent laws and practices, increase your highway safety awareness, and expedite the convenient and timely completion of your driver improvement clinic course requirement.

Course information is designed to aid in the improvement of driving attitudes and behavior, while enhancing your ability to manage and avoid driving-related risks. Moreover, this course will help you, your passengers, pedestrians and other drivers significantly improve the chances of surviving motor vehicle related crashes. Although the minimization of property damages is a key objective of this exercise, the primary goal of this driver improvement clinic course is to save lives and reduce injuries.

You must be deemed eligible to satisfy your on-line driver improvement clinic course requirement by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles or your court. Significantly, the state of Virginia and its Department of Motor Vehicles do not permit (i) individuals under 20 years of age or (ii) commercial driver licensed (CDL) individuals to satisfy their course requirements via an on-line driver improvement course. Accordingly, if you are less than 20 years old or if you hold a CDL license, you must participate in a live driver improvement clinic session. (To schedule your required attendance in a classroom course, please call the Virginia Driver Improvement School at 1-800-794-2228.)

Although this course is designed to be completed in approximately 8 hours, you may use as much time as required, and you need not complete it in a single on-line session. If you do not complete the session or if your session is interrupted, you must resume the course from the beginning of the chapter where you stopped. Therefore, attempt to complete/chapters before signing-off. You may re-enter the course via the internet at anytime (day or night) from any on-line computer. You need only to provide your authorization code and/or password for re-entry.

The state of Virginia mandates attainment of a minimum score of 80 percent on the final examination to successfully complete the driver improvement clinic course. You should not have any difficulty achieving the minimum required score. To maximize your chances of passing, the program includes progress quizzes throughout the course. You must score 100 percent on each of the progress quizzes to proceed to the next module. Attaining 100 percent on the progress quizzes should prepare you to acheive 80 percent or better on the final test. At the end of the final test, the computer system will applaud your effort and indicate the score that you obtained on the final test. Therefore, before you leave the test site or even get up from the computer, you will know your final test results. If you would like to personally receive the hardcopy of your completion certificate, then it will be put in the United States Postal Service delivery system within three (3) to four (4) business days from the final test completion date.

In the unlikely event that you do not achieve a score of 80 percent or more, the final test can be retaken but only once per day or 24 hour period. There is no limit to the number of times you may take the final test but there may be additional costs applied by the testing center. Additionally, you have unlimited access to and may review the course materials as fully and often as needed prior to testing or re-testing.

Notes, open books and other materials are not permitted when taking the final test at a test site location. A benefit of taking the on-line course is that others may help you with the course materials. While others can help you with the on-line course material, no one can take the test for you nor assist you in any manner during the final test taking process.

When appearing to take the final test at a centralized testing site, the state of Virginia requires students provide an official form of photo identification. This is for your protection and the test site's assurance that you are indeed the person that is required to take the final test. For your convenience, a list of approved test sites is provided. You will be given a choice of test sites after completing this online course.

The cost of this on-line course is $49.95. Included in this cost is the course curriculum, fee for taking the final test at an approved testing site and the issuance of one (1) completion certificate. You are required to pay all fees to fulfill your course order which are not related to the cost of this on-line course such as court processing fees. Per your request, the completion certificate can be issued to you, the court, your insurance company, your employer or the Department of Motor Vehicles. You will be given 30 free minutes to complete the final test at one of our test sites. As long as you complete the test within the allotted time, there will be no additional cost to you.

In the unlikely event that you will need more than 30 minutes to complete the test, then there will be a minimal charge that you will need to pay the test site. Practice makes perfect, therefore, the more you practice taking the final practice test, the more likely you will pass the final test at a test site.
